Quick Overview

Original Article

In AfterWorld you can either buy ammo from other players or craft it yourself.
To craft ammo, all you need is the basic resources that you can mine from rocks in Quarantine Zone A1 and some AWD to pay for the crafting process.

In this tutorial we will craft 600 Ammo P (penetration damage, the most basic ammo). To start, we will assume that you have the following resources in your Saransk storage inventory (found in the central building, where the revival pad is located):

Every type of ammo is composed of three components:

  • a lead bullet
  • a copper shell
  • a unit of gunpowder

Refining the resources

We will start with the main task: refining the resources. To craft ammo you will need Lead and Copper in metallic form and Coal crumbs, Sulfur crystals, and Nitre granules in powder form. To obtain these, refine the stones collected by rock mining with a Pick by using a Foundry Terminal or a Chemical & Mineral Treatment Terminal to extract, for example, lead from the lead stone and copper from the copper stone.

Always put any item to refine in Storage!

Foundry
Foundry

Lead, Copper, and Coal stones are refined in the Foundry Terminal, found in the Foundry building in the NW corner of Saransk town. There is one located in Quarantine A1 as well, but only refining can be done in that zone, so all crafting processes are normally performed in Saransk.

Mineral Treatment Facility
Mineral Treatment Facility

Nitre and Sulfur stones are refined in the Chemical & Mineral Treatment Terminal, on the second floor of the Mineral Treatment Facility in the NE corner of Saransk town, in the rooms across from the Oil Refinery Terminal. There is one located in Quarantine A1 as well, but only refining can be done in that zone, so all crafting processes are normally performed in Saransk.

The refining process is similar in both:

  • Right-click on the terminal
  • Click Refine
  • Drag your stack of stone into the empty slot on the left
  • Click Continue
  • Take a look at the refining cost and time
  • Press Confirm

Remember that any time you refine something, you will get a 2:1 ratio of refined item and will pay a 0.01AWD fee every 4 kg of refining.
Ex: 500 kg of Lead stone refines to a 250 kg bar of Lead at a cost of 1.25 AWD

Using Refiner
Using Refiner

In the terminal window you will see:

  • Amount of stone to be refined
  • Time needed to refine (days:hours:minutes)
  • Cost to rent the refiner
  • The refined product you will receive when the process is complete

Along with what is shown in the window, you may also receive refining residue (Common slag) and some of the original stone. When refining is complete, you will receive a message that your refined material has been placed in Storage, as well as any other items received from refining, in the system area of the chat window (the top section).

If you are following along with this tutorial, you should now have 4.8 kg of lead, 1.2 kg of copper, sulfur crystals, and coal crumbs, and 3.6 kg of nitre granules.

Making Basic Shells

Let's start crafting the simplest part: the Basic Shell.
This is the metallic part that contains the gunpowder and the bullet.

From the Foundry terminal, run to the building just to the east.

Inside, you can find the Weaponry Components Terminal

  • Right click on it
  • Select Basic Shell under Ammo components
  • Click Continue
  • Type in the desired number of shells, in this case 600
  • Click Continue
  • Drag the Copper bar into the empty slot
  • Click Continue
  • Take a glance at the values: you are crafting 600 basic shells at a cost of 0,01 AWD.
  • Press Confirm to allow the terminal to complete the process

You can now stand still for the duration of the process or jump ahead to the section below to craft some Bullet P.

Making Bullets

In this part we will craft some bullets for our ammo.
It is the same process as making Basic Shells except that Lead is used.

  • Right click on terminal (unless it is still open after making shells)
  • Select Bullet P under Ammo components (the one with two pink bands)
  • Click Continue
  • Type in the desired number of bullets, in this case 600
  • Click Continue
  • Drag the Lead bar into the empty slot
  • Click Continue
  • Take a glance at the values: you are crafting 600 bullet P at a cost of 0,01 AWD.
  • Press Confirm to allow the terminal to complete the process

As you can see, the process is not that hard to follow.
While waiting for the bullets, let's start crafting the gunpowder...

Making Gunpowder

This is the most complicated component to make. It requires three ingredients to craft: coal, sulfur, and nitre (or, to be more precise, Coal crumbs, Sulfur crystals, and Nitre granules). Before first time craft Gunpowder, it's needed to do one time a sucessfull Research on it.

To craft a single unit of gunpowder you need:

  • Right click on terminal (unless it is still open after making shells)
  • Select Gunpowder under Ammo components
  • Click Continue
  • Type in the desired number of Gunpowder Units, in this case 600
  • Click Continue
  • Drag the Coal crumbs into the correct empty slot
  • Drag the Nitre granules into the correct empty slot
  • Drag the Sulfur crystals into the correct empty slot
  • Click Continue
  • Take a glance at the values: you are crafting 600 units of gunpowder at a cost of 0.01 AWD.
  • Press Confirm to allow the terminal to complete the process

Beware that the resource requirements are fixed quantities. If you put one gram too many or too few, you can't continue until you remove it and add the exact amound needed. This can some times be annoying, but after a few attempts, it becomes habit to drag only the exact amount needed.

Assembling the ammo

After 2-3 minutes, you should have the following in your Saransk storage inventory:

Approach the terminal again and:

  • Right click on terminal (unless it is still open after making shells)
  • Select Ammo P under Ammo (the one with two pink bands)
  • Click Continue
  • Type in the desired number of bullets, in this case 600
  • Click Continue
  • Drag the Bullet P stack into the correct empty slot
  • Drag the Gunpowder pile into the correct empty slot
  • Drag the Basic Shell stack into the correct empty slot
  • Click Continue
  • Take a glance at the values: you are crafting 600 units of gunpowder at a cost of 0.01 AWD.
  • Press Confirm to allow the terminal to complete the process

After a minute or two, your ammo will be completed and placed in your Saransk storage. Go to the storage lockers in the central building, where the revival pad is, and drag the ammo into an empty slot in your inventory or onto an existing stack of the exact same ammo. Now you will be able to hunt AW's various creatures.

A few tips

  • Ammo is crafted most efficiently, with respect to AWD, in multiples of 600.
  • Craft enough ammo for personal use as well as some extra for emergency. Saransk is the only city with Crafting Terminals that function fully. There are terminals in Quarantine Zone A1, but only refining is possible. If someone in another zone is in need of ammo, you can sell your surplus for easy AWD, including enough to craft more ammo.
  • To use the ammo, drag it directly to onto your gun in the Inventory window, while not equipped. Guns do not reload themselves and hold a maximum of 10,000 rounds, so be sure to keep an eye on your ammo count so that you do not run out at a bad time.
  • When Making the Basic Shell and Normal P heads it is the most cost effective to make them in batches of 1200. Whilst the gunpowder and Assembeling of the shells should be done in batches of 600.
